Linking services to servers
↩ Services
Every service belongs to exactly one server — the host it runs on. This article covers how services and servers connect, and how to move between them.
The relationship
- A service is created on a server (the Server field is required when you add it).
- A server can have many services.
- To move a service to a different server, edit it and choose another server.
Navigating between them
From a server to its services: open the server, select the Services tab. You'll see the services running on it, each with a status dot. Select one to open its detail page. Agentless servers also offer Discover services here.
From a service to its server: on the service detail page, the Hosted on card shows the server and site — select it to jump to the server.
You can also open Services pre-filtered to one server or site from links elsewhere in the app.
Organising with groups
Services can be sorted into groups (for example by application or environment):
- Select Groups on the Services page to create, rename, or delete groups (name, colour, description).
- Use the tag control on a service row to add it to groups.
- Filter the list with the All groups dropdown.
Groups are specific to services — they're separate from site groups or server groups.
Notes & tips
- Linking a service to a Software record (the Linked application field) ties it to version and license tracking.
- Use the Hosted on card as a quick path from a failing service to the server it runs on for troubleshooting.
