Adding an asset
This article covers the register list and adding an asset to it.
The register
Select Register (under Assets) in the sidebar. The page shows:
- Stat cards — a total plus counts for the statuses you've flagged as stat cards.
- A warranty banner when any asset's warranty expires within 30 days.
- Search (tag, serial, make/model) and filters for status, category, site, and location.
- A table with Tag, Make / Model, Category, Location, Status, Condition, Purchased, and Warranty (days left, or expired).
Select any row to open the asset's detail page.
Adding an asset
- Select Add Asset.
- Complete the form:
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Make | Yes | e.g. Aruba |
| Model | No | e.g. 6000 12G |
| Asset Tag | No | Your identifier for the asset |
| Serial Number | No | Used for matching and lookups |
| Category | No | From your categories |
| Status | No | e.g. Active |
| Condition | No | e.g. Good |
| Site | No | The location it belongs to |
| Location | No | Free-text location |
| Purchase Date | No | When it was bought |
| Purchase Price | No | Cost |
- Select Create.
When you save, JOATOS automatically records a Received lifecycle event, and any new make, model, or location is added to your lookup lists.
Nesting assets
Assets can be nested under a parent (for example, line cards inside a chassis). Nested assets appear indented under their parent in the list, with an expand/collapse control.
Serial numbers matter
A serial number links an asset to the device or server it represents — JOATOS can match them automatically, and you can search the register by serial. See Linking a device to an asset.
Notes & tips
- Only Make is required, so you can add an asset quickly and fill in the rest later.
- Set up statuses, conditions, and categories first so new assets file consistently.
