Reclassifying an endpoint
JOATOS decides whether a monitored machine is an endpoint (workstation/laptop) or a server from its detected operating system when it enrols. That's right almost all the time — but you can override it when needed.
When you'd reclassify
- A machine was detected as a workstation but you run it as a server (or vice versa).
- A device shows the wrong type (Workstation vs Laptop).
Changing the type
- Open the machine's detail page.
- Change its type using the type control in the header.
- Save.
If you change a machine between an endpoint type (Workstation / Laptop) and a server type (Physical / Virtual), it moves between the Endpoints and Servers pages accordingly. The underlying monitoring and history are preserved — only where it's listed and which tabs it shows change.
What changes with the type
- Endpoint types show the endpoint tabs (Overview, Software, Patch, Vulnerabilities, Monitoring).
- Server types additionally show server-only tabs such as Services, Roles, and Events — see Servers.
Your manual choice sticks: re-enrolling or reinstalling the agent won't overwrite a type you set by hand.
Notes & tips
- Reclassifying doesn't re-install or re-enrol the agent — it's just how JOATOS categorises the machine.
- Down-alert eligibility follows the type, so reclassifying can change whether a machine is treated like server infrastructure.
