Certificate and domain expiry alerts

Domains & SSL

JOATOS keeps an eye on expiry dates for both domains and certificates and surfaces them prominently, so a lapse never takes you by surprise.

Automatic checks

  • SSL certificates are re-checked daily by a background job, which updates each certificate's expiry and records any check errors. A new certificate is also checked immediately when you add it, and you can re-check on demand.
  • Domains use the expiry date you record; run WHOIS anytime to confirm registry details.

How expiry is surfaced

Expiry shows as colour-coded badges and banners on the lists:

  • Domains — a badge turns amber within 90 days and red within 30 days (or Expired); banners summarise how many are due.
  • SSL certificates — a badge is green when healthy, yellow within 90 days, orange within 30, and red within 14 days or once Expired; stat cards and banners highlight expiring and failing certificates.

Both lists are sorted by soonest expiry, so what needs attention is always at the top.

Turning expiry into action

When the Tasks module is enabled, upcoming domain and certificate expiries can generate tasks ahead of time (using a configurable lead time), so renewals land on someone's work list rather than relying on spotting a badge.

Notes & tips

  • Keep domain expiry dates accurate — unlike certificates, they're not fetched automatically, so the warnings are only as good as the dates you enter.
  • Review the SSL check errors banner periodically; a persistent failure often means an endpoint changed or went offline.
